DTF Transfer FAQ
What is a DTF transfer?
DTF stands for Direct-to-Film. Your design is printed in full color onto a special film, coated with a hot-melt adhesive, and then heat-pressed onto fabric. Unlike vinyl there is nothing to weed, and unlike screen printing there are no setup fees or color limits. If you have used HTV or screen prints before, this is the easier version of both.
How long do production and shipping take?
Standard production takes 3–5 business days, or choose the express option to cut that to 1–3 business days. After production, shipping takes 1–3 business days within Germany and 2–5 business days to the rest of the EU. Because we print in Germany, your order is not spending two weeks in customs limbo on its way from overseas.
Do you ship to APO/FPO addresses?
Yes — we ship to APO/FPO addresses. Enter your full military address exactly as it appears on your orders (unit, box number, APO/FPO + ZIP) and we handle the rest. Military mail runs on its own schedule, so allow extra transit time for military mail routing beyond the standard shipping estimate.
What file format and resolution do you need?
PNG or PDF, ideally at 300 DPI, with a transparent background — anything that is not transparent gets printed, including that white box you forgot about. Avoid ultra-thin text or strokes; they do not press well. Not sure if your file is right? Upload it anyway and we will let you know before printing.
How do gang sheet sizes and pricing work?
Gang sheets are 32 cm (about 13 inches) wide, and you pick the length: roughly 50 cm ($6.80), 100 cm ($13.60), 200 cm ($22.53), 300 cm ($31.78), 400 cm ($39.68), 500 cm ($46.24), or 1000 cm ($74.56). Longer sheets cost less per centimeter, so the math rewards planning ahead. Upload your PNGs into the Gang Sheet Builder, then resize, rotate, and duplicate designs to pack the sheet as tightly as you can — you pay for the sheet, not per design.
What temperature, time, and pressure should I press DTF transfers at?
Typical starting points: 150–160°C (300–320°F), 10–15 seconds, medium-to-firm pressure, then peel according to your film type (cold peel is the safest default if you are unsure). A second press of 5–10 seconds with parchment or a Teflon sheet improves washfastness and finish. These are typical starting points — follow your film's spec sheet, and always test on a scrap garment before running your whole batch.
How durable are DTF prints, and how should I wash them?
Applied correctly, DTF transfers are known for strong adhesion and durability — they stretch with the fabric instead of cracking like old screen prints. To keep them that way: wash inside out in cold water (30°C), skip the bleach and fabric softener, tumble dry low or hang dry, and never iron directly on the print. Treat the shirt slightly better than the Army treated you and it will outlast the joke printed on it.
What fabrics do DTF transfers work on?
Cotton, polyester, blends, dark fabrics, light fabrics — basically everything. That is the main advantage over other methods: one transfer type covers your cotton tees, poly performance shirts, and that 50/50 hoodie, with vibrant color on dark fabric and sharp detail on light.
